Improvements

Cassie and I have made a lot of improvements on our game demo. We had some color problems and spelling errors, but we fixed them. Also, some things people couldn't see because of the background, so we had to change that too. We've had a lot of success as well. Like when we got Nikki, the little boy to move his way through the maze. We still haven't got him to go back when he hits a wall, but we're getting there! :] All in all, we have made a lot of progress on our demo, and I hope that it's good come Thursday. If you want to see all our mutual progress, check out our page....http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/Team:Musical_Daisies

Game Demo

I've learned a lot of stuff with this game demo. Some of it bad, but most of it good. Like you should always save something a few times, or don't erase things that are already there. Even, bring your own flashdrive to school. But I've also learned a lot about making a game. It takes longer than I expected, but it's really worth it in the end. About that saving projects thing, always remember to name it something you'll remember.:) I had a lot of fun doing this with Cassie, despite some trouble along the way. The very first try at our game demo was really awesome. But halfway through, someone erased it off their flashdrive accidentally. So we had to start over, but it's ok because it's done! :] If you want to see Cassie and mine's presentaion (when we put it up:) just click this link........http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/Team:Musical_Daisies

Also, here is this awesome video of a stop motion game demo.....

Using Sound

I LOVE sound!!!  It makes the game a lot more fun to play. It will definatly make our game a lot more fun! When the little man moves through the maze, if he hits a wall, he gets a bell sounding kind of thing. But a bad one, since bells are sometimes happy. It also makes the learning experience better, because people will just want to hear the sounds more, so they have to strive to get the questions right. There are all kinds of different sounds going into this game. Everything from bells to music, frogs to chickens, and just about everything in between!!!

This is a video of some sweet sounds while this guy is drawing. It's amazing!!!!!!!   If you want a link to a place where you can create some great tunes with a bunch of different sounds, here that is!!!!!

Reflecting

I really liked doing Flash this year in Globaloria. I wasn't in it last year, so I thought all this would be incredibly hard. But surprisingly it's not. Creating in Flash allows me to express myself in my school by doing things that I love and making my ideas come to life. It's been great to see all of my ideas being created in reality. It felt great to finally accomplish some things that I had to work at. Like getting characters to move, making buttons work, and getting Flash to cooperate. So Flash this year has really been good for me and I hope the rest will come this easily. Sorry I couldn't exactly find a video, but I did find some happy stuff. And here is a link to like, the happiest, weirdest website I have ever discovered. http://www.weirdomatic.com/ Seriously it's happy. Once again, couldn't find a video on the subject but oh well.

Adding Animations

Animation From: http://sunsite.univie.ac.at/MathAnim/pythanim/pythanim.gif

This animation really stands out to me. It shows a strange way to solve the Pythagorean Theorem. Most people wouldn't really solve it this way, but it seems fairly easy to understand. It takes triangles, makes squares out of them, and shows you how it makes the a squared + b squared = c squared. It's very easy to understand and this one just takes most of the complicated numbers out of the equation and puts it into squares to make it easier. So thats why this animation stands out a lot to me. Thats basically it, nothing else to it.

Progress, Struggles, Sucess, And Looking Forward

Today, we're supposed to blog about our struggles, sucess, and progress. And thats exactly what i'm going to do. I have made a lot of progress in this year so far. I really thought that I wouldn't be able to comprehend all of this at one time, but I have done exceptionally well. I have learned a lot abotu reating games in Flash, including a lot of code too. But I do have struggles with getting the codes right and having them to work the right way. Don't get me wrong though, I have had a lot of sucess as well. Getting the animations moving was a great sucess for me. Along with getting buttons to work and scenes to go where they're supposed to go. I look forward to a lot as well. I look forward to learnign more code and learning to do a lot more in the way of Flash. I also look forward to getting our game finished and presented. It'll rock by the way!:]

Adding Buttons

Ok, how is it going? This week, we're blogging on the 'Adding Buttons' addition to our course schedule. We we're supposed to go through our knowledge comunity and find a link form another students page that you find helpful. I found this one on Allison's Blog.....http://www.google.com/ Yes, it is Google, because Google means infinate knowledge...from everywhere!!!! This is the link to the blog that I got this from....http://twilightfanallison.blogspot.com/ The reason this link here is soooo helpful is the fact that Google never runs out of information that you can use. It's a map, it's a GPS, it's a movie critic. Google is even a calculator! I didn't know that until I tried it out. Plus, this link was relly useful to my group because, it showed so many links to website dealing with our problem! [Pythagoren Theorem] It just goes how much you can use from a link to a well-known website. Hopefully you will go and check this link out for yourself. You never know what you'll find!
Well, I guess that's all for this week. I'll be back next week with more on our course schedule. Bye!

Addin' Some Scenes!

Hi, it's me again, and please just disregard the spelling in the title. As I said, I make a lot of typos! Today we are blogging abotu 'Drawing A Scene' This kind of came a little hard to me and it took me a while to learn how to do it. In the end it ended up Cassie doing the loading screen and I got the title screen...unfortunatly Flash drives were constantly left at home for some reason or another, but hey, thats life. Anyway,  back to the topic at hand.

We use scenes, in our gaem, to do a visual story of a little man trapped in a strange world. And these scenes lead you through his perilous journey of.......mazes and math and junk like that. Plus they help you learn about our math topic *cough*Pythagoren Theorem*cough* And it really helps you gain a better understanding if you don't know it that well. Some examples from playing to learn are the game about Hurricane Katrina[I can't quite remember the name right now], Zeitgeist, and, even though I hate this game, Ayiti:The Cost Of Life did too. A lot fo other games about this genre that Cassie and I played really influenced how our game is going down, you know! :D

Here is a video of this awesome guy drawing a scene. It's the chiz so watch it!!!!!
If you want to check out the real deal for yourself though, just hit this link right here.......link to the most awesome video in the world

Plus if you get creeped out, it's not my fault, you watched it! So, I'm going to go watch more stupid cat videos so, bye!!!!

Drawing A Scene And Stuff...

Hey, how is it going!?!?! Guess what, I am so happy, but in other words, we have to talk about our 'drwaing a scene' portion of our game projects. I have learned a new idea about our game topic (Pythagorean Theorem) It doesn't take five billion steps to get through it; it only takes a few! That surprised me because I always thgouht that, you know, it took a thousadn steps, but it doesn't. Doing the reasearch for it and finding out about it helped bring this whole new concept to me. Wikipedia was amazing of course, along with some web sites that had a lot of information.{i.e.school run sites, math sharing sites}And these sites were really reliable because most of them were created with students in mind and with information strait from teachers. I would call that reliable.

See, right up there it is, in the few simple steps that it takes to solve the Pythagoren Theorem. It's really not that hard, you know!

Here is a video of how to learn the Pythagoren Theorem in like, three minutes!!!
But if the video doesn't work right, just go to this link right here to see it....http://www.viddler.com/explore/drjviddler/videos/5/

If you want to check out a website about the Theorem, just click this link....right here. Literally CLICK THE WORD HERE! Bye!!

Blog About Paper Prototyping!!!!!:D

Hey, it's Kilie again, and this time we have to blog about the paper prototyping.

This project has changed my perspective on my game enormously. I've learned that some things that I wrote down wouldn't really look right on a flash game, honestly. It would've looked like a jumble of monkey went through and destroyed it!

We modified our game a lot to, from our original idea. It's a lot different actually! :] The reason that we did was once again, a lot of things wouldn't look all that good in a game, and we thought up some really great things to modify and change our game scenes in the paper prototyping...

This is a video that I found of a paper prototype [not ours] about a game. Check it out.

Plus, if you want to check out mine and Cassie's own paper prototype, just click this link right below this.http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/Team:Musical_Daisies

So thats about it, I will see you next Friday!

Imagining My Game

Hey, it's Kilie again, and this time we have to do a kind of idea for our game. This thing right here is the thing that I typed up in Flash!

My game idea for a puzzle, is somewhat like a maze. You would be a player wandering the building trying to get out. To make the right turns, you have to get the answers to the prblems right about the Pythagorean Theorem. If you get the questions wrong, well, you make a wrong turn. There are five questions on every level. The first one has six, but the first one is a diagram of the Pythagorean Theorem that you have to put together. At the last level (the roof) you have to get the questions right to hop on the clouds that will let you stay. If the answer is wrong you fall through the cloud. You have five lives through the game, and three extra when you get to the roof. At the end, you get to the helicopter and make it away from the maze.

I am really excited about making a game in general. There isn't really one thing that i'm most excited about. I just really like solving challenging problems and I think this will be a very challenging problem.

In fact, here is a video of a person solving a puzzle....

Ok I guess thats it, im going. If you want to check out the full story, you can click this link and go strait to my projects page.....http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/User:Kilie_mullins13/Projects-8th_Grade_Globaloria_Fall_2010 Bye, see ya!!! :D

Mini Game Project Post

Ok, I admit it, I love video games. They're just so much fun! Of course you have to get up off the couch and go outside, but if you have a little free time, I would say play a game. I usually don't go for the console games like PlayStation or XBox that often. I mostly stick to the Internet games online.

My favorite games to play in the whole history of forever and ever, are puzzle games. They are very addicting!! I love those games where you have to take piece and put it somewhere like a jigsaw puzzle or something like that. I love mazes too, I could play them forever.

This project gave me a much wider perspective about games. Usually I gravitate toward the easier games, but I realize the easy ones don't really take that much time and effort. If you want a great game you have to put some real effort into it, and I've learned that!

In fact here is a link to a site that has a lot of games, both easy and challenging.....http://www.y8.com/

And if you want to see something, here is a video of a video game....sorry this video doesn't seem to be working. If you really want to see it, just click this link....http://www.viddler.com/explore/shogungamer/videos/303/ thanks, bye!!!!

My "Choosing A Topic"

Hey I'm Kilie Mullins, from Sandy River Globaloria, and had to write this thing for my topic. Oh cool, the text is green. But anyway, this year, our class had to do Math games. So we had to pick a grade level math subject. First of all I'll show you the links on my teams topic that I found!

Yeah, these links were really helpfull. Now I found this video about fractions. Watch it...seriously, watch it!

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

I really like the puzzles genre. At first I thought I liked the general, but then I saw that the puzzles part said the word random, which is what I mostly like about the general. But it's all the fun of a maze or a regular puzzle. And people can still learn things. like making a puzzle about math facts or teaching them division or something. Plus your puzzles can pop up at anytime, like !BANG! puzzle in your face! I mean look at this puzzle --->

Or this puzzle ---->

In fact you can watch this video of a man putting a puzzle together.
http://www.viddler.com/explore/langwidere/videos/10/       <-------thats the link :]

<-------and this right here is the actual video!! :]

So basically, i'm done with this whole topic and i'm leaving now. Goodbye.

First Year Here

I'm Kilie, and this is my first year in Globaloria. And if something is spelled wrong, I make a lot of typos, so just try to look over it. I really hope to learn a lot about the making of games this year. I'm usually a computer junkie, but when it comes to this I know nothing. I don't really have an idea for our games yet. I'm hoping that will come along later. :] But anyway, my stuff is loaded up and I have some work to do...bye!
